HI, Kate,

I am so happy to be here in the Carpathians for my holidays. My friend Ann and I are staying at a lovely hotel Gutsulshchina. It is not very big but it is clean and cozy, and it has an electric fireplace in each room.

Right now we are having a cup of coffee at a hotel café and enjoying delicious ice-cream. The weather here is frosty and snowy and we spend most of our days skiing in the mountains. What I like most is a cup of hot tea after we return to the hotel. We have made friends with a local girl whose mother cooks for the tourists, and sometimes we have snowball fights or make a snowman together. It’s real fun.

Tomorrow is the 31^st of December, and we are having a New Year party. It will be held in the hall of the hotel. The New Year tree is already there. It’s decorated with shiny toys and bright streamers. There will be a lot of tasty food and drinks and a lot of dancing and singing. The advert says that all tourists are invited. Our new friend has invited us to celebrate with her family, so we haven’t decided yet where to go.

This part of Ukraine with its beautiful scenery is just stunning. I’ve already taken a lot of pictures to show you when I come back home. I like it here so much that I would like to stay here longer. However, I can’t as I promised my family to celebrate Christmas with them.

I think you should come to the Carpathians  someday. I am sure you will like it here.
