Kiev is the capital of Ukraine. It is situated on both banks of the river Dnieper. As it is a large city with a population of more than three million, people a lot of different means of transport to get around. One of the best and most convenient is Kiev Metro. It will take you to any part of the city in no time. Other means of transport are buses, trolley-buses, trams and taxies. A taxi is both a comfortable and convenient means of transport. However, it’s the most expensive and many people only use it in case of emergency.

There are many places of interest in Kiev. The best place to start a sightseeing tour of Kiev is Khreshchatik, the main street of the capital. The street is only one kilometer long but it is very impressive. It looks especially beautiful in spring when chestnut trees are in blossom. The street is full of beautiful buildings and some of them date back to the 18^th century. 

There are many cafes, restaurants and shops in Khreshchatik, too. You can go shopping, eat some of the traditional Ukrainian dishes, sit on the bench and look at the fountains or just take a walk along the street.

 Another famous sight in Kiev is Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra, one of the oldest monasteries in our country. It was founded in 1051, so it’s more than 900 years old. Every year thousands of people all over the world come to Kiev to visit this amazing place.

Such places of interest as the Golden Gates, St. Andrew’s Church, the monuments to Prince Vladimir and Taras Shevchenko are also worth seeing.

The State Historical Museum of Ukraine is a great place to visit for tourists of all age groups. Its exposition, which includes 50 000 exhibits, will tell you about the history of Ukraine and its culture from ancient times to our days.

Dream Island, a huge aquatic park which covers the area of 24 000 square meters, will be interesting for both children and grown-ups. It’s famous for its fantastic water attractions. There are lots of swimming-pools, saunas cafes and restaurants in the park. Once you go there, you won’t be able to leave and you will want to spend the whole day there.

All in all, Kiev is a modern city with something for everyone. It is noisy and crowded but it is also exciting. I advise everybody to visit it.
