Discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of different means of transport. Include this information:

• which means of transport you have travelled by;
• which one you liked most and why;
• why people choose this or that means of transport.

There are many kinds of transport. People use different kinds of transport for different purposes. There are buses, trolley-buses, trams, cars or the metro to travel around the city. There are planes, trains, and buses to travel long distances.

My family and I have travelled long distances several times. We travelled by plane, train, bus and car. I think that all of these kinds of transport have their advantages and disadvantages.

The plane is the fastest way of travelling. If you need to get to some faraway place very quickly, you should go by plane. However, travelling by plane is very expensive and you can only see the sky and the clouds through the window.

Travelling by train is not as fast as travelling by plane but it is much cheaper. Also you can enjoy beautiful scenery when you look through the window or go to a restaurant if you get hungry.

The bus is less comfortable than a train because you have to sit all the way to your destination. Also if you want to have a snack you have to take it with you as there are no cafes or restaurants on the bus. However, the seats on the modern buses are very comfortable and there is usually a TV in the salon, so you can watch a film or a TV show.

My favorite means of transport, however, is the car. I like travelling by car because it gives you a lot of freedom. Firstly, you can start your trip at any time you like. Secondly, if it is too hot, you can turn on the air conditioner. Finally, you can stop at any place you like and spend there as much time as you like. The only disadvantage is that it’s very expensive to travel long distances by car. That’s why when we need to go very far from home, we usually use a plane or a train and when we need to go on a short trip, we usually travel by car.
